The Empress

What are the spiritual laws that govern our progress through life?  How can we reach the peaks and traverse the canyons challenging us ever onward toward wholeness?  Over the next few months I will take seekers on a journey through the Major Arcana of the Tarot, unveiling the secrets contained within their mysterious dimensions.

The Tarot is an ancient divinatory art which communicates the energies working in a querent's life through symbols including number, colour, shape, picture and archetypal characters.  There are many versions or decks of cards available, all conveying essential spiritual laws or truths. Each deck contains the "minor arcana" and "court cards" which everyday playing cards are based on, as well as the Major Arcana which demonstrate the higher spiritual "lessons" we must all pass through on our journey to our highest potential.  My aim is to introduce seekers to the gifts of the Major Arcana so they may become familiar with different spiritual themes that play out in all of our lives.

As you explore this section, meditate on the periods in your life where these themes have been presented to you.

Three:  The Empress - 2

The Empress represents the Mother principle.  She is shown in pregnancy, with the waters of life flowing behind her and a fertile field of corn surrounding her.  The countryside is as lush and abundant as her body.

The Empress means so much more than pregnancy;  The energy she represents gives form to all things.  She wears a castle crown which may symbolise the home she creates or indeed the home she is to the new being growing within.  Thre Empress reminds us to be patient,  for nothing comes before it's time and bringing our plans to fruition prematurely brings forth improperly formed things.  She represents all things growing in the dark, in the quiet place within where instinct rules and the power of will is no power at all.

The Empress is the feminine principle, the Yin, the feminine light which together with masculine light brings forth a brand new light.  She nurtures things carefully and gently, knowing that pulling the new shoot out of the ground will not make it grow any quicker.  She waits and draws her energy inward, taking nourishment from around her for the delicate instinctual work she is doing.

The Empress is the creative force that shapes matter into something new.  If she appears in your life, then it is time to contemplate what you are creating, whether it be a business, a garden, a child or a holiday.  Spend quiet time with your gestating plans.  Rest and nurture this brand new spark of creation.  Be comfortable in this place of stillness.  The cave of crreation is a quiet place where not much seems to be happening.  But rest assured the time will come when the spark erupts into a powerful manifested force.
